now at five. >> pam: fire on the freeway, chaos for commuters on the bay bridge. three hours three to four hours mucho trafico >> pam: no matter how you say it, the backkup from big rig fire is just now easing up. this is a live look at the bridge traffic now, from treasure island. all lanes now re-opened -- but the lasting impact still being felt. we have a reporter monitoring the conditions for us. but first, catherine heenan >> catherine: is here. to show us how the big rig fire played out this morning. >> catherine: let's look at the scene. this is the view from down below the big rig.as it was still burning. this is westbound 80 - right before the 5th street off- ramp.in downtown san >> catherine: this was such a mess.it might have been 'worse' than a bart strike.in terms of traffic on the bay bridge. >> pam: >> pam: because of a flat tire about 5:45 a-m. he pulled over to the right shoulder and got out -- and spotted smoke coming from the engine. fortunately - he ran away from the truck - because

up and hauled away because it could have disingrated littering spreading the mess around even further.so instead the semi had to be dismantled. after the fuel was offloaded in to these blue barrels. >> reporter:the tractor and the trailer were separated.the cab going first onto the back of a flatbed tow truck. what was left of the truck's cargo was cleared awayby hand, by shovel.and by a front loaderthe trailer was hauling.rice.which was made heavier after absorbing water from the fireproducts related to sushiand a vinegrette dressingwhich you can see here in these bags.many of the bags burst.giving the caltrans crews a different kind of oil to clean up than they are used to dealing with. sand had to be put down to absorb the salad dressing mixed with water used to put out fireand then sweep up.the trailer.which was mostly just a frame.had to be carefully lifted up.an alley before the freeway was closed with yellow caution tape.in case any of the burned metal broke away. that too went onto another flatbed tow truckand flattened down before being towed away.the bulk gone.caltrans crews could start sweeping up what was left of the sand and debris.the roadway.which had been examined by
